Dental Implants in Toronto

When you’re missing teeth, it can have detrimental effects on your confidence and your health. A missing tooth can lead to a misaligned bite, bone loss, and an increased risk of gum disease. It also becomes harder to chew and speak when a gap in your teeth exists. Dental implants are designed to be a permanent solution for these problems.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is made up of an artificial tooth, an abutment, and a metal anchor or implant. The artificial tooth is typically made of porcelain or ceramic. The implant is made of titanium and is designed to replace the root of the real tooth. The abutment, also made of titanium, securely attaches the artificial tooth to the implant.

The Dental Implant Procedure

The implant procedure is typically performed over multiple appointments to give ample time for healing. At the first appointment, your dentist will place the implant into your jawbone beneath your gum. As the gum heals, the implant will bond with the bone. At the second appointment, an abutment will be screwed into the implant. Your artificial tooth will then be fitted, either during the same appointment or at a later time.
